Kershaw County First Steps is pleased to annouce Early Steps Indentification (ESI).  ESI is a program designed to support families and care givers with the identification and referral of children with developmental needs (hearing, vision, and developmental screenings).

Kershaw County First Steps will help you determine if a FREE developmental screening is necessary.

What happens after the screening?

  • If the screening determines signs of developmental delay(s), KCFS will refer the child to BabyNet for further evaluation and possible early intervention services.
  • Early Intervention services are designed "to enhance the family's capacity to meet the developmental needs of the child."

Program Results 14-15

  • Screened 15 children for hearing
  • Screened 15 children using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire
  • Referred 7 families to community resources after screening indicated need
