Kershaw County First Steps Board Approves FY27 Grant Application to Continue Investing in Young Children and Families
CAMDEN, SC – The Board of Directors of Kershaw County First Steps convened a special board meeting on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. to consider and approve the organization’s Fiscal Year 2027 grant application.
The Board unanimously approved the proposed FY27 grant application, which was prepared by Executive Director Katie Nichols and the Kershaw County First Steps staff. The finalized application will be submitted to the South Carolina First Steps State Office by the required deadline of April 30, 2026.
The annual grant serves as the primary funding source for Kershaw County First Steps and supports the organization’s mission of preparing children for success in school and life through high quality early childhood initiatives. If awarded, the funding will allow the local partnership to continue delivering critical parenting education, family support, school readiness, and community engagement programs throughout Kershaw County during the Fiscal Year 2027 funding period.
“This grant application represents our continued commitment to the children and families of Kershaw County,” said Executive Director Katie Nichols. “We appreciate the Board’s support and the dedication of our staff in preparing a comprehensive application that reflects the needs of our community. We remain focused on ensuring every child has the opportunity to enter kindergarten ready to succeed.”
Kershaw County First Steps partners with families, schools, childcare providers, healthcare professionals, and community organizations to improve outcomes for young children from birth through age five. Through evidence based parenting programs, literacy initiatives, developmental supports, and community partnerships, the organization works to build a stronger foundation for lifelong learning.
The organization extends its appreciation to the Board of Directors, staff, community partners, and the South Carolina First Steps State Office for their continued collaboration in supporting early childhood education and family well being throughout Kershaw County.
